Frequently asked questions
When and where is it? Sunday 4 October 2026 at Glenbrook Beach, Kahawai Point, Auckland. The event centre is Paddock to Pantry, 1 Tai Tauwhare.
How do I enter? Online at eventplus.net/kpd26. Entries close Sunday 20 September. There are no entries on race day.
How much does it cost? A flat $40 for adults and $30 for under 15s, whatever the distance.
What do I get? Chip timing, a race bib, the 2026 finisher t-shirt, and aid stations on course.
Do I have to be fast? Not at all. The 8km is competitive if you want it to be, with prizes by category, but plenty of people are there for the morning out. The 5km Community Walk is open to everyone.
Can I walk the 8km? The 8km is set up as a run. If you’d rather take it easy, the 5km Community Walk starts at 10:35am and is made for walkers.
Is there a minimum age? The Kids Run is for under 15s. Younger kids are welcome in the Kids Run and the walk with a parent. The 8km is all ages, use your judgement for younger runners.
Can I bring my dog? Yes, on the 5km Community Walk only, and only on lead the whole way. No dogs in the 8km or Kids Run.
Can I bring a pram? Prams are fine in the 5km Community Walk. Please start at the back and give runners room.
Where do I park? On-site parking opens at 8:45am. Follow the marshals when you arrive.
Are there toilets and somewhere to leave my bag? Yes. Toilets are at the event centre, and there’s a designated bag drop area. Keep valuables on you.
Can I collect my bib early? Yes. Come to pre-registration on Saturday 3 October, 3:00pm to 5:00pm at Paddock to Pantry. Collect your bib and t-shirt, and grab a free sausage.
When will I get my t-shirt size? Sizes are locked to the entry cut-off. Enter by 20 September to guarantee your size.
What happens if the weather’s bad? The Coastal Classic runs rain or shine. If conditions ever become unsafe, we’ll post any changes on the website and email entrants directly.
Are spectators welcome? Absolutely. Bring the family. There’s food, coast, and a finish line to cheer at.
Can my school or workplace enter as a group? Yes. Schools can join the School Challenge, and workplaces and clubs can enter as a team. Everyone enters individually, then runs together. Get in touch to organise a group.
Where do the proceeds go? A portion of every entry supports the Kariaotahi Surf Club.
